Abstract
BACKGROUND
To examine neuroticism as a possible determinant of depression in alcoholics.
METHOD
24 euthymic depressed alcoholics and 18 never-depressed alcoholic controls completed the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire.
RESULT
Euthymic depressed alcoholics had significantly higher neuroticism scores than alcoholic controls.
LIMITATION
No women alcoholics were studied.
CONCLUSION
Neuroticism may be a risk factor for depression in alcoholics.
