A case of fatal neonatal meningitis due to Group B β-haemolytic is described. Early diagnosis and institution of vigorous antibiotic therapy were of no avail. Although the mortality rate is very high in comparison to many other neonatal bacterial infections reported so far, it is difficult to explain the fact that there are so few references to it as a pathogen in the British literature.
