The P2X receptor agonist alpha,beta-methylene ATP and purinergic electrical stimulation induce contractility response in guinea pig vas deferens. The low-temperature response observed at 30 degrees C was markedly greater than that at 37 degrees C and 42 degrees C. The P2X receptor antagonist pyridoxal-6-phosphate-2',4'-disulfonic acid stronger inhibits the electric-field-induced contractility at 30 degrees C than at 37 or 42 degrees C, while no such difference was observed for the inhibition of contractility induced by alpha,beta-methylene ATP.
