The prevalence of hypertension is very high in diabetic patients. Hypertension is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and microangiopathic complications. In diabetic patients the therapeutic goal is to lower blood pressure below 130/80 mmHg. Improving lifestyle contributes to reducing body weight and blood pressure and often permits to reduce the quantity of antihypertensive drugs necessary to reach this goal.
