The structure of neurofilaments and glial filaments are compared. Both filaments are composed of three subunits-a globule, interconnecting crossbar and side-arms. These elements form a tubular arrangement and their dimensions are given. Since the subunits of both filaments have a similar arrangement but differ in size, it is concluded that they represent different proteins.
