Injections of joints and soft tissue: Part II. Guidelines for specific joints.

Sterile technique is recommended for corticosteroid injection of joints and soft tissue. For joint aspiration, a slightly larger needle than that used for injection may be of benefit. Corticosteroid injection is followed by pain relief if the appropriate structure is treated. This article describes the technique used for aspiration and injection of specific structures, including the joints of the fingers and toes, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip and knee.
