[Gaviscon in reflux symptoms. Results of a drug monitoring study].

335 general practitioners participated in an observational study of the alginic acid-containing antacid preparation Gaviscon over a period of eight months. In this period, 2927 patients with reflux disease were treated. Some 62.3% of the patients were treated for six to eight days. Both the tablet and suspension forms of the drug were considered to be effective by both physician and patient in more than 94% of the cases. Drug toleration was also considered good in more than 95% of the cases. The taste of Gaviscon was described as good by 54.7% of the patients, and acceptable by 33.5%. Pregnant women with reflux symptoms were observed in a separate group (n = 52).
