In rumen experiments, although nitrogen gas (N) flushing has been widely used, its effects on rumen fermentation characteristics are not clearly determined. The present study is the first to evaluate the effects of N flushing on rumen fermentation characteristics in batch culture system by comparing with new applicable non-metabolizable gas: argon (Ar). The rumen fluid was taken from two Korean native heifers followed by incubation for 3, 9, 12, and 24 h with N or Ar flushing. As a result, in all incubation time, N flushing resulted in higher total gas production than Ar flushing ( < 0.01). Additionally, in N flushing group, ammonia nitrogen was increased ( < 0.01). However, volatile fatty acids profiles and pH were not affected by the flushing gases ( > 0.05). In conclusion, the present study demonstrated that N flushing can influence the rumen nitrogen metabolism via increased ammonia nitrogen concentration and Ar flushing can be used as a new alternative flushing gas.
在瘤胃实验中,尽管氮气(N)冲洗已被广泛使用,但其对瘤胃发酵特性的影响尚未明确确定。本研究首次通过与新的适用的不可代谢气体氩气(Ar)进行比较,评估了在分批培养系统中氮气冲洗对瘤胃发酵特性的影响。从两头韩国本土小母牛采集瘤胃液,然后用氮气或氩气冲洗,分别培养3、9、12和24小时。结果显示,在所有培养时间内,氮气冲洗产生的总气体产量均高于氩气冲洗(P<0.01)。此外,在氮气冲洗组中,氨氮增加(P<0.01)。然而,冲洗气体对挥发性脂肪酸谱和pH值没有影响(P>0.05)。总之,本研究表明,氮气冲洗可通过增加氨氮浓度影响瘤胃氮代谢,氩气冲洗可作为一种新的替代冲洗气体。
