Abstract

BACKGROUND

L. (Lamiaceae) includes more than 300 annual or perennial species growing in temperate regions of Southern Africa, the Mediterranean, America, and Asia. Benth (), also known as Marzeh Kuhi, is an endemic species from Iran. It is found in the mountainous habitats of the Zagros area. It has various traditional uses, and the phytochemical ingredients and some biological activities of this species have been examined in previous studies.

METHODS

PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Science Web databases were used to gather the data. The purpose of this review is to consolidate the scattered knowledge reported in the literature about botany, traditional uses, phytochemistry, pharmacological properties, and safety of and suggest its potential medicinal properties. . In traditional Iranian medicine, manages various illnesses, such as rheumatoid arthritis, common cold, infections, asthma, and tussive. More than 30 compounds have been identified in essential oil. The compounds found in are phenolic compounds, monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, alkaloids, and terpenoids, which have various properties such as antioxidant, nephroprotective, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, hepatoprotective, and anticancer properties.

CONCLUSIONS

The literature reveals that is an essential source of bioactive phytochemicals and illustrates the unknown area of this plant for new investigations. Moreover, we recommend that future research focus on toxicology and quality control studies for to fill the knowledge gap and provide theoretical support for the plant's possible functional and clinical uses.

背景

唇形科包含300多种一年生或多年生植物,生长于非洲南部、地中海地区、美洲和亚洲的温带地区。薄荷(Benth),也被称为马尔泽库希(Marzeh Kuhi),是一种来自伊朗的特有物种。它生长在扎格罗斯地区的山区栖息地。它有多种传统用途,并且该物种的植物化学成分和一些生物活性在先前的研究中已被研究过。

方法

使用PubMed、Science Direct、谷歌学术、Scopus和科学网数据库收集数据。本综述的目的是整合文献中报道的关于薄荷的植物学、传统用途、植物化学、药理特性和安全性的零散知识,并提出其潜在的药用特性。在传统的伊朗医学中,薄荷可治疗多种疾病,如类风湿性关节炎、普通感冒、感染、哮喘和咳嗽。在薄荷精油中已鉴定出30多种化合物。薄荷中发现的化合物有酚类化合物、单萜类、倍半萜类、黄酮类、生物碱和萜类化合物,它们具有抗氧化、肾保护、抗炎、抗菌、肝保护和抗癌等多种特性。

结论

文献表明薄荷是生物活性植物化学物质的重要来源,并揭示了该植物有待新研究的未知领域。此外,我们建议未来的研究集中在薄荷的毒理学和质量控制研究上,以填补知识空白,并为该植物可能的功能和临床应用提供理论支持。
