The present study involves the screening of different extracts of for its phytochemical constituents and the study of its antioxidant potential ( method).
Using an extraction technique, various components were prepared according to their polarity and tested for phytochemical classes like total phenolic (TPC) and flavonoid (TFC) content. The 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH), hydroxyl radical scavenging, and nitric oxide (NO) scavenging assays demonstrated the antioxidant effects of these extracts.
TPCs and TFCs present in the methanolic extract of were 222.46 ± 3.86 gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g and 190.99 ± 2.61 quercetin equivalent (QE)/g. The different leaf extracts of methanolic extract of ipomoea muricata (MEIM) exhibited half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of 91.74 μg/ml in the DPPH assay, 67.68 μg/ml in the hydrogen peroxide assay, and 147.47 μg/ml in the NO scavenging assay. Petroleum ether extract of ipomoea muricata (PEEIM) had IC50 values of 114.19 μg/ml in DPPH assay, 74.09 μg/ml in hydrogen peroxide assay, and 159.86 μg/ml in NO scavenging assay whereas chloroform extract of ipomoea muricata (CEIM) had IC50 values of 99.29 μg/ml (DPPH), 70.85 μg/ml (hydrogen peroxide), and 149.64 μg/ml (NO).
The methanolic extract of exhibited the highest values of radical scavenging activity in various methods by DPPH, hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, and NO scavenging activity when compared to standard. It was also discovered that the leaves of this plant are rich in phenolic and flavonoid compounds.
