Abstract

Reactions of the angular 4,4'-oxybis[-(pyridin-3-ylmethyl)benzamide] () with dicarboxylic acids and transition metal salts afforded non-entangled {[Cd()(1,3-BDC)(HO)]∙2HO} (1,3-BDC = 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid), ; {[Cd()(1,4-HBDC)(1,4-BDC)]∙2HO} (1,4-BDC = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid), ; {[Cu()(1,3-BDC)]∙1.5HO}, ; {[Ni()(1,3-BDC)(HO)]∙2HO}, ; {[Zn()(1,3-BDC)]∙4HO}, ; {[Zn()(1,4-BDC)]∙2HO}, ; and [Cd()(1,4-BDC)], , which have been structurally characterized by using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complexes - and are 2D layers, giving (6·8·10)(6)-2,4L3, (4·8·10)(4·8)(4), (4·5·6)(4·5·6·7)-3,5L66, (6·8·10)(6)-2,4L3, interdigitated (8·12)(8)-2,4L2 and (3·4·5)- topologies, respectively, and is a 1D chain with the (4·6·8)(4)-2,4C3 topology. The factors that govern the structures of - are discussed and the thermal properties of - and the luminescent properties of complexes , , and are investigated. The stabilities of complexes and toward the detection of Fe ions are also evaluated.
