Ascorbic acid status does not influence iron absorption in normal guinea-pigs. A high tissue ascorbic acid saturation is associated with an increased absorption in iron-loaded animals and in those with a high absorption due to haemolytic anaemia. In all groups the percentage of the absorbed dose retained in the spleen is higher in scorbutic than in normal guinea-pigs.
