Eight microscopical observations on Al2O3-ceramic implants which were designed in order to reconstruct the middle ear structures in rabbits are reported. The implants remained in the middle ear for a period of up to 7 months. The implants were covered with connective mucous tissue and implants reconstructing the external acoustic meatus were covered with new bone with a fibrous tissue interposition. The implants had all healed without irritation.
