Surgical treatment of cardiac arrhythmias will continue to evolve as advances in understanding of the mechanisms of these arrhythmias and technological developments in the areas of mapping and noninvasive diagnostic capabilities are made. As limitations with many aspects of pharmacological therapy become more apparent, surgical therapies will continue to play a pivotal role in the definitive treatment of these supraventricular and ventricular tachyarrhythmias.
