Standardized laboratory test name nomenclature: a requirement for data base exchange.

A new, comprehensive, computer-based medical nomenclature is briefly described in this paper. The terms of this nomenclature are organized into a single hierarchy. Laboratory test names have been made an integral part of the nomenclature, applying classification rules the same way as in the rest of the hierarchical tree.
