Exclusive physician contracts: their benefits and drawbacks.

Hospital CEOs are mandated to ensure services of high quality at the same time that they control costs and limit malpractice exposure. Especially in resource-intensive specialties such as anesthesia and diagnostic imaging, use of exclusive contracts with physician groups may increase the CEO's ability to realize these objectives. However, exclusive contracts carry some risk; CEOs should know what these are and how to minimize them.
