Downsizing an organization as a means to reduce costs can often lead to a disruptive hospital environment and traumatic experiences for employees, especially when reducing staff. By taking a planned and systematic approach, hospitals can make staff reductions a less painful experience. Through better communications, sound reasoning, good organizational analyses, and understanding, hospitals and employees alike can better survive the trauma of the downsizing experience.
