Abstract
Some critics consider quality assurance (QA) programmes and medical audit inappropriate for India's diverse hospitals; others feel that they are vital tools for the optimisation of scarce resources. The Indian Hospital Association successfully initiated a QA programme for its teaching hospitals, the preparation and results of which are described here along with the reproduction of the questionnaire used.
