This article covers the stages of the development of electromyography in France, since the founding works of Lerique [4], the first publications of the "Société d'EEG et des sciences connexes de langue française" (1948), the first international meeting (Strasbourg, 1960), the French-speaking meeting on electromyography which is now being held every other year. It also deals with the difficulties of registering and interpreting the first recordings and the considerable help brought by the improvement in electronics and computer sciences.
