We describe a method which should allow construction of bacterial strains able to export a given protein through the cytoplasmic membrane. The principle is to fuse the structural gene of the protein to the proximal part of gene lamB, the structural gene of the lambda receptor, an outer membrane protein of E. coli K-12.
