PURPOSE
A case of sudoriferous cyst of the orbit in an adult patient is reported. This unusual cyst in the orbit has heretofore been reported only in congenital cases.
METHODS
Case report.
RESULTS
A 45-year-old woman sought treatment for an asymptomatic mass of the left lower eyelid. Computed tomography of the orbits showed a cystic lesion in the inferior orbit with bony remodeling. Histopathologic examination showed the lesion to be a solitary cyst lined by two to three layers of cuboidal epithelial cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm. Some of the epithelial cells contained periodic acid-Schiff-positive, diastase-resistant granules. The pathologic diagnosis was a sudoriferous cyst.
CONCLUSION
Sudoriferous cysts, although uncommon, should be included in the differential diagnosis of orbital cystic tumors.
