A study of malaria prevention was conducted in two areas of Brazzaville: Makelekele and Bacongo, 10-12 November 1997, following a day of mobilisation. The study included 111 households in each area. In Makelekele, people were informed about the use of impregnated mosquito nets. Bacongo was used as a control area. The answers to the questionnaire indicated that 56.7% of households in the informed area knew about impregnated mosquito nets versus 30.6% in the control area. Likewise, 47.7% of the households in the informed area versus 10.8% in the control area knew where to locate centers for impregnating the nets. From these findings we conclude that information concerning the use of impregnated bed nets as prevention for malaria needs to be spread to all areas of Brazzaville.
