Decree No. 88-18/PCMS/MSP/AS organizing the Ministry of Public Health and Social Affairs, 22 January 1988.

This Decree organizes the Niger Ministry of Public Health and Social Affairs. Among the directorates of the Ministry are a Directorate of the Status of Women, a Directorate of Maternal and Child Health, and a Directorate of Family Planning. Decree No. 88-17/PCMS/MSP/AS of 22 January 1988 (Journal Officiel de la Republique du Niger, No. 3, 1 February 1988, pp. 139-140) sets forth the functions of the Minister of Public Health and Social Affairs. It provides that the Minister shall be responsible for "the formulation and implementation of the national policy in the field of public health, social affairs, and the status of women, within the outlines defined by the Government." Among the functions that the Minister is to undertake in the field of public health are the following: 1) maternal and child protection and 2) formulation and implementation of family policy.
