[Permanent dual catheter for hemodialysis].

One of the most important points to consider during hemodialysis is how to obtain access to a vessel which provides adequate flow. Nowadays, the age of patients entering a dialysis program gets older all the time and for many patients, a permanent catheter is the best option to obtain vascular access. In this article, we describe a permanent dual catheter used in our nephrology service for acute patients. Its placement is simple and not very traumatic, and its use during hemodialysis is comfortable, both for the patient as for the health professional. The authors explain how to use one, its complications and the nursing treatment which should be provided to patients whose bear this catheter.
