Abstract
Recent research suggests that population coverage of Papanicolaou smear taking in Australia has been inadequate. General practitioners have been encouraged to carry out audits of their own work in this field to improve both the quantity and quality of smears. The author outlines audit methods developed, and the results obtained in his practice.
