BACKGROUND
Intraocular inflammation in children differs considerably from that found in adults. Therefore the diagnostic work-up has to be adapted to the age and specific diseases.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The published literature was reviewed for results of clinical trials and consensus meetings. In addition, the authors have incorporated their own experience.
RESULTS
Recommendations for a systematic and complete diagnostic work-up are given using tables where possible.
CONCLUSIONS
A close cooperation between ophthalmologists and paediatricians is very important.
