The marked reduction of in-stent restenosis of drug-eluting stents (DES) has dramatically affected modern interventional therapy for coronary artery disease. The promises of this potential panacea, however, have been recently attenuated by the specter of late stent thrombosis. Stent thrombosis and in-stent restenosis reduction represent the double-edged sword of neointimal inhibition.
