Abstract

PURPOSE

To evaluate the serum levels of von Willebrand factor (vWF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), endothelin-1 (ET-1), and endothelin-3 (ET-3) in patients with the isolated, inactive form of Schistosomiasis mansoni. Patients were classified into two groups: 10 patients without (SM group) and 18 with (PH group) portal hypertension.

RESULTS

Serum albumin, VEGF, and vWF levels did not differ between the two groups (P > 0.05). The prothrombin time (INR), number of platelets, spleen size, splenic vein diameter, and endothelin levels differentiated the PH group, which showed decreased ET-1 (SM = 22.4 +/- 2.4 pg/ml and PH = 16.4 +/- 1.5 pg/ml; P = 0.034) and increased ET-3 (SM = 2.1 +/- 0.1 ng/ml and PH = 3.2 +/- 0.1 ng/ml; P = 0.000) levels.

CONCLUSIONS

In patients with schistosomiasis and portal hypertension (presinusoidal type), the levels of VEGF and ET-1 differ from those reported in patients with cirrhosis.

评估曼氏血吸虫病孤立性非活动性患者血清中血管性血友病因子（vWF）、血管内皮生长因子（VEGF）、内皮素-1（ET-1）和内皮素-3（ET-3）的水平。患者分为两组：10例无门静脉高压患者（SM组）和18例有门静脉高压患者（PH组）。

结果

两组患者血清白蛋白、VEGF和vWF水平无差异（P>0.05）。凝血酶原时间（INR）、血小板数量、脾脏大小、脾静脉直径和内皮素水平可区分PH组，该组ET-1水平降低（SM组=22.4±2.4 pg/ml，PH组=16.4±1.5 pg/ml；P=0.034），ET-3水平升高（SM组=2.1±0.1 ng/ml，PH组=3.2±0.1 ng/ml；P=0.000）。
