Since 1982 there have been many reports on the use of continuous passive motion in the postoperative care of patients with total knee arthroplasty. Continuous passive motion (CPM) has proven to provide good results at our clinic. CPM is often described as having a positive effect on the postoperative range of motion. It also seems to decrease the length of the hospital stay. In addition, a low incidence of thrombosis has been reported and we could detect no negative effects on wound healing.
