Tetrathionate is converted into thiosulphate in the presence of sulphite, sulphide and their mixtures. These reactions can be applied to analysis for any of these sulphur compounds by determination of the amount of thiosulphate formed. The chemical interactions may also be involved in the regulation of the oxidative sulphur pathways in micro-organisms and be employed to prepare colloidal sulphur particles.
