Bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) is a recent discovery and has only been brought to the attention of health care professionals in since 2003. The purpose of this article is to describe this phenomenon and focus on preventive strategies to minimize the risk of patients developing this condition. Management and prevention will be broken down into patients taking IV bisphosphonates and patients taking oral bisphosphonates.
