Clinical signs of chronic hypertrophic rhinitis are compared with the results of histological studies. It was shown that the cavernous form of the disease is associated with hyperplasia of glandular structures in the mucous membrane of the inferior nasal conchae and concomitant vascular hyperplasia. In certain cases, the hyperplastic process affected the cavernous structure alone while in others it involved the microcirculatory bed in the subepithelial connective tissue. The fibrous form of chronic hypertrophic rhinitis was associated with fibrous degeneration of the mucous membrane in the inferior nasal conchae revealed by histological methods.
