Rupture of the spleen, caused by a septic embolus, developed in a patient, who had been treated for bacterial endocarditis of the aortic valve. The incidence of this rare complication is discussed and the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment are described. The circumstances, under which the diagnosis should be strongly considered, are emphasized.
