Abstract

A method for the analysis of low levels of the enzyme gamma-glutamyltransferase in biological samples by high-performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection is described. A gamma-glutamyl moiety from glutathione is transferred by the enzyme to glycylglycine to produce a tripeptide which is assayed directly after a purification step using octadecylsilica. Confirmation of the method is by use of the inhibitor AT-125. The method is used to measure the level of enzyme activity in rodent tissues and in cultured cells.
