Abstract

Canine babesiosis is an important tick-borne disease caused by Babesia spp. A total of 130 blood samples were randomly collected from pet dogs in Zhengzhou city, Henan Province, China, and screened for the presence of piroplasms with nested PCR and gene sequencing targeting the 18S rRNA gene. On the basis of blast analysis of the 18S rRNA gene sequences, our results revealed that seven dogs (5.4%) were infected with Babesia canis canis. The sequences were compared with those in GenBank, and alignments showed that all B. canis canis isolates belonged to genotype B. This is the first report of B. canis canis infection in dogs in China.

犬巴贝斯虫病是由巴贝斯虫属引起的一种重要的蜱传疾病。在中国河南省郑州市,从宠物狗中随机采集了130份血样,采用巢式PCR和针对18S rRNA基因的基因测序技术筛查梨形虫的存在情况。基于对18S rRNA基因序列的比对分析,我们的结果显示有7只犬(5.4%)感染了犬巴贝斯虫。将这些序列与GenBank中的序列进行比较,比对结果表明所有犬巴贝斯虫分离株均属于B基因型。这是中国犬感染犬巴贝斯虫的首次报道。
