[Hypnosis and orthodontic treatments].

INTRODUCTION

After being discarded from hospitals due to its lack of scientific evidence, medical hypnosis is once more in the spotlight thanks to neuroscience and medical imaging, which have proven its specificity. Medical hypnosis is currently enjoying real enthusiasm, and now the doors are opening not only to medical and surgical units but also to our orthodontic clinics.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

This article defines hypnosis and its different levels of application and the required techniques. It also explores all the different fields in which it can be used in orthodontic treatment.

DISCUSSION

Hypnosis can be applied from the very first contact with the patient and can be useful and therapeutic at every step of the process. It is useful to think of it in our discipline as a treatment in its own right contributing to heal parafunctions and tongue disorders more efficiently.
