Digital nerve injuries in orthopaedic surgeons.

Accidents during a surgical procedure can occur to both the surgeon and the patient. In order to assess the occurrence of hand injuries amongst surgeons a survey of digital nerve injuries was carried out. The incidence (15%) was disappointingly high and the majority of penetrating injuries occurred during surgery. The risk of infection to both patient and surgeon is emphasized.
