Abstract

Malaysia, also known as a food haven, is currently facing an excessive food waste problem which poses a threat to the environment. The objective of this research is to study the factors that affect the behavioral intention of Malaysians to reduce food waste. This study employs the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Norm Activation Model (NAM) to better understand the behavioral intention of Malaysians toward reducing food waste. A cross-sectional study was conducted, using 352 self-administered survey questionnaires. Data collected were analyzed through PLS-SEM analysis. The results show that awareness of consequences (AC) and ascription of responsibility (AR) influence personal norms, while attitude, perceived behavioral control, and personal norms (PN) have significant effect on behavioral intention (BI) to reduce food waste. Furthermore, PN partially mediates the relationship between AC and BI as well as AR and BI. This study offers critical insights which will benefit the Malaysian Government, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and other related parties in recognizing factors influencing the intention to reduce food waste which can be adopted to develop practical solutions to curb food waste in Malaysia.: This study offers critical insights to the Malaysian Government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other related parties in recognizing factors influencing the intention to reduce food waste which can be adopted to develop practical solutions to curb food waste in Malaysia.

马来西亚,又称美食天堂,目前正面临着食物浪费过量的问题,这对环境构成了威胁。本研究旨在探讨影响马来西亚人减少食物浪费行为意向的因素。本研究采用计划行为理论(TPB)和规范激活模型(NAM),以更深入地了解马来西亚人减少食物浪费的行为意向。采用横断面研究方法,共发放 352 份自填式调查问卷。收集的数据通过 PLS-SEM 分析进行分析。结果表明,后果意识(AC)和责任归因(AR)影响个人规范,而态度、感知行为控制和个人规范(PN)对减少食物浪费的行为意向(BI)有显著影响。此外,PN 部分中介了 AC 和 BI 以及 AR 和 BI 之间的关系。本研究为马来西亚政府、非政府组织(NGO)和其他相关方提供了重要的见解,有助于他们认识到影响减少食物浪费意愿的因素,从而可以采取措施制定切实可行的解决方案来遏制马来西亚的食物浪费。
