Abstract
Three patients are described who demonstrate the "target-sign" of optic nerve atrophy on CT scanning. This sign is produced by the centrally located atrophic optic nerve surrounded by a patulous perioptic subarachnoid space. An explanation for this phenomenon is proposed.
