The aim of the present study was to develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of an instrument in Persian to assess the mothers' knowledge, and perception about oral health of school children. A sequential exploratory mixed method design consisting of qualitative and quantitative phases was performed. We developed the questionnaire by inductive-deductive method, through a synthesis of literature review and a qualitative study with semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions. Face and content validity of the items were assessed by consulting a panel of 11 experts. In the quantitative phase, an exploratory factor analysis was performed using data from a cross-sectional study with a sample of 303 mothers. Reliability analysis with test-retest approach and Cronbach's alpha coefficient and intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) was done. Pre-final version of the scale consisted of 120 items extracted from the qualitative study and literature review. After content and face validity, 92 items were chosen with the greatest agreement between experts, with a content validity index (CVI) >0.8 and content validity ratio (CVR) of 0.59. The final questionnaire covered 62 items. The overall Cronbach's alpha was 0.94 and it ranged from 0.87 to 0.97 for the subscales. The ICC ranged from 0.91 to 0.98 (Cronbach's alpha ≥0.70). The present study introduced a valid and reliable questionnaire for assessment of the mothers' perception regarding school children's oral health. It can be used as a standardized measure for public health surveillance and evaluation of oral health promotion programs.
本研究的目的是开发并评估一种波斯文工具的心理测量特性,以评估母亲对学龄儿童口腔健康的知识和认知。我们采用了一种由定性和定量阶段组成的顺序探索性混合方法设计。我们通过归纳-演绎法,综合文献综述以及半结构化访谈和焦点小组讨论的定性研究来编制问卷。通过咨询11位专家组成的小组来评估项目的表面效度和内容效度。在定量阶段,我们使用来自303名母亲的横断面研究数据进行探索性因素分析。采用重测法、克朗巴赫α系数和组内相关系数(ICC)进行信度分析。量表的预终版由从定性研究和文献综述中提取的120个项目组成。经过内容效度和表面效度评估后,选择了92个专家之间一致性最高的项目,内容效度指数(CVI)>0.8,内容效度比(CVR)为0.59。最终问卷涵盖62个项目。总体克朗巴赫α系数为0.94,各子量表的系数范围为0.87至0.97。ICC范围为0.91至0.98(克朗巴赫α系数≥0.70)。本研究推出了一种有效且可靠的问卷,用于评估母亲对学龄儿童口腔健康的认知。它可作为公共卫生监测和口腔健康促进项目评估的标准化测量工具。
