Eimeria ovata Duncan, 1968 is redescribed from 2 of 39 (5%) gray-collared chipmunks Neotamias cinereicollis Allen in Arizona, USA. Sporulated oöcysts of this species are ovoidal, 26.3 × 20.3 (23-28 × 16-22) µm, with a length/width ratio of 1.4 (1.2-1.6), a pitted, bi-layered wall, and 0-2 polar granules; oöcyst residuum and micropyle are absent. Sporocysts are ovoidal, 13.3 × 8.2 (12-15 × 7-9) µm, with a length/width ratio of 1.7 (1.6-1.0), a Stieda body, and sporocyst residuum; sporozoites contain a posterior refractile body. The measurements and structural features of these oöcysts are similar to those reported for E. ovata described from the eastern chipmunk Tamias striatus. This is a new geographic record for this coccidian and the first report to include photomicrographs of its sporulated oöcyst.
