This study examines the impact of China's Carbon emissions trading (CET) pilot policies on corporate green transformation, addressing the research gap in understanding how market-based environmental regulations affect firm-level sustainability efforts. A novel panel dataset of listed Chinese firms from 2011 to 2017 is constructed, and a difference-in-differences regression model is employed to evaluate the effects of the CET on corporate green transformation. The results indicate that the CET pilot policies significantly promote corporate green transformation across environmental, economic, and innovation dimensions. Further cross-sectional analysis demonstrates stronger effects among firms with higher managerial ownership. An unexpected finding is Non-state-owned enterprises benefit more significantly from CET. Mechanism analyses reveal that the CET reduces financing constraints and encourages green investments, thereby driving corporate green transformation. These findings highlight the critical role of the CET in facilitating firms' transitions toward sustainability.
