Senile macular degeneration.

Senile macular degeneration is a common disease, especially in the elderly population, but fortunately a national multicenter study has recently proved that treatment by argon laser photocoagulation is efficacious in many of these patients if the diagnosis is made promptly. Family physicians play an important role in diagnosing treatable forms of the disease quickly and in educating their elderly patients about the symptoms of this condition.
