Antishock trousers provide rapid field treatment of hypovolemic shock. This inflatable suit also stabilizes pelvic and lower extremity fractures and compresses bleeding sites. Although widely available, inexpensive and effective, the device is underused. Pulmonary edema is an absolute contraindication. Adverse effects include restriction of ventilation, skin necrosis, and compartment syndromes with prolonged use. Rapid deflation is hazardous.
