Radionuclide ventriculography allows the visualization of the right and left ventricles, the objective quantitation of right and left ventricular function at rest and during stress, and an evaluation of the influence of a variety of different physiologic, pharmacologic, and surgical interventions on global and regional ventricular function. The further development of tomographic imaging devices and sophisticated associated computer systems should allow sensitive three-dimensional analysis of global and segmental ventricular function and evaluations of the interrelationships between myocardial perfusion, metabolism, and function.
