Primary care of head injuries at the scene of accident is of major importance for the stabilization of vegetative functions. In many cases death is caused by an acute increase of intracranial pressure. Thus prognosis is influenced by complications like arterial intracranial bleedings or brain edema. The decision on the means of transportation depends on the possibilities of early treatment of these complications. In clinical examples time as a factor in the care of head injuries and their complications are demonstrated.
