In 2108 pregnant women, external abdominal measurements were correlated to the weight of the newborn child. The product of girth and uterine height was more closely correlated to the infant weight than were any of these maternal variables alone or in other combinations, but the accuracy of this method was almost as low as of simple external palpation. For successive estimations of fetal growth the product of maternal girth and uterine height may be more adequate than either of these variables alone.
