On the basis of experience gained during the implementation of this form of treatment at the Professorial Casualty Unit of the 2nd Department of Surgery, University of Vienna, during the years 1671--1974, guide lines are laid down for the achievement of a successful outcome of transplantation with a minimal complication rate.
