Abstract
Circumcision has been regarded through the ages from many points of view, lay and religious, and the reasons advanced for its practice are diverse and often rationalised to counter assertions of its irrationality. This article includes an argumentum ad circumcisionem centred in the scholarly opinions of Philo Judaeus of Alexandria.
