Abstract
The measurement of serum levels of 25-hydroxycholecalciferol in the diagnosis of rickets is discussed in the light of recently acquired knowledge of vitamin D metabolism. A useful clinicopathological classification of rickets is presented and various aetiological mechanisms are discussed.
